Endurance Eastern Arabic Limited Edition
GREEN FLASH
The Endurance is a new limited edition with one of Farer’s most striking designs yet, combining dark greys and bold jade green highlights. The 39.5mm steel case has been given a titanium carbo-nitride (TICN) PVD coating, which gives the steel a dark gunmetal grey finish that makes the polished surfaces look more like the case is made from ceramic than steel. TiCN PVD is a process often used on industrial parts due to its high scratch resistance, and the coating offers vastly superior protection compared to bare 316L stainless steel.
Housed within this stealthy case is a dark grey dial with multiple finishes. The centre is raised and vertically brushed, and the outer ring on which the hour markers are mounted has a radial brush. A white minute track sits along the outer edge, with the minutes printed in jade at 5-minute intervals.
The hour markers are a mix of batons and Eastern Arabic numerals. They are fashioned from Lumicast, a blend of Super-LumiNova and ceramic, overprinted in a bold jade green to produce a backlit glow that is something of a Farer signature. This watch marks the first ever time Eastern Arabic numerals have been produced in Lumicast. Meanwhile, the syringe handset is emerald green and filled with white Super-LumiNova, whilst the seconds hand is jade green with an orange Farer ‘A’ tip. Lastly, the Endurance is presented on a custom leather strap, with a smooth black upper, and a supple lining in jade green to match the watch itself.
By mixing dark hues and the vibrant jade green, the Endurance is not only exceptionally legible but also visually unlike any other Farer watch, which makes it the ideal choice for those who want something both practical and unique.
The Endurance Eastern Arabic is a limited edition of 100 units.
Features
Universal Case - The case is 39.5mm in diameter, with a 45mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of only 10.8mm, making it easy for anyone to wear.
Weekend Warrior - The watch is powered by a La Joux-Perret G101 movement. This automatic Swiss calibre comes with an impressive 68-hour power reserve. It is finished to La Joux-Perret's "soignée" standard, the highest grade of their calibre, which is adjusted to 4 positions.
Night Light - Not only are the hands filled with luminous Super-LumiNova, but the applied numerals are moulded from solid blocks of Super-LumiNova. Together these provide unparalleled legibility in the dark.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
STORY
The watch is named after the Endurance, the ship Sir Ernest Shackleton used for his 1914–1917 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Endurance was built at the Framnæs shipyard in Sandefjord, Norway, and was explicitly designed to cope with the icy polar conditions.
The expedition aimed to complete the first successful land crossing of the Antarctic continent. However, Endurance became trapped in the pack ice of the Weddell Sea and was eventually crushed and sank under the pressure. The crew of 28 men then spent months on the ice, before reaching the uninhabited Elephant Island. From there, Shackleton and five crewmen travelled 800 miles in a lifeboat to South Georgia, where they were able to arrange the rescue of those crewmen who remained stranded. Ironically, Shackleton’s expedition would become known for the incredible endurance that the crew displayed as they made their way back to civilisation.
In March 2022, the wreck of the Endurance was discovered 3,008 metres (9,869 ft) beneath the surface by the search team Endurance22 and was described as being in "a brilliant state of preservation". Subsequently, the wreck was designated as a protected historic site and monument under the Antarctic Treaty System.
